The designing & development of Cavo Zoe Hotel, began with a simple question: How do you design within a view that already defines the space?
Set within the coastal landscape of Cyprus, a terrain often perceived as a “paradise on earth”, the challenge was to reveal its essence.
Our response was to work with the landscape, allowing the project to unfold as a natural extension of it. Water became the central gesture, a continuous presence, visible from every point, guiding movement and dissolving boundaries. Rather than isolated elements, the pools form a connected system that frames views, reflects light, and brings a sense of calm continuity throughout the space.
The site’s elevation shaped the experience. A sequence of stepped water levels follows the natural slope, opening uninterrupted views toward the sea. At the entrance, the water rests like a quiet lake. As one moves through the hotel, it gradually transforms, descending, flowing, and finally gathering at a lower level in a more intimate, waterfall-like moment. Movement becomes fluid, almost instinctive, always in dialogue with the horizon.
Materiality was approached with calm precision, allowing texture and light to take the lead. Natural elements, wood, stone and water, echo the tones of Protaras, grounding the architecture within its context. The wooden pergola, supported by tree trunks, filters the Mediterranean light, casting shifting shadows that animate the space throughout the day.
At C+Studio Architects, we design through experience. At Cavo Zoe, spaces unfold as a sequence of moments, inviting guests to wander, to pause, and to reconnect with the landscape around them. The architecture settles quietly into its context, receding to allow water, light, and the rhythm of the land to take the lead.
